MISSED CLASSES Participants are to attend all classes as scheduled, in which they are registered. In the event the participant is unable to attend, make-up classes, refunds or credits for missed classes will not be provided.
COURSE WITHDRAWAL OR CANCELLATIONS All withdrawals or cancellations must be done in writing to learntosail@pcyc.net. Phone or personal withdrawals or cancellations will not be accepted. Course cancellations are subject to the following criteria:
1) Course Cancellation: A full refund will be issued to a registrant in a course where, due to low enrollment, the entire course is cancelled. Prior to the issuing of a refund, the registrant will be offered the opportunity to register in a like or similar course, should space be available.
2) If cancellation is received 7 days or more prior to the start of any course, a refund will be issued less an administration fee of $ 100.
3) If cancellation is received no later than the first day of the course, a refund will be issued less an administration fee of 50% of the course fee. No refunds will be issued on or after the first day of any course.
4) In the event that a participant transfers to another available course prior to the start of the course, only the fee difference between the courses shall be charged.
5) In the event of injury, a pro-rated refund amount will be calculated, and the participant will be offered the choice between having the pro-rated refund applied towards re-registering for the course at a future time or applied toward another course at PCYC in the future.
6) Should space be available in a program, students may be added to a course at a pro-rated fee based on the number of days participating. An administration fee may apply.
7) Participants asked to leave courses due to safety or disciplinary concerns shall not receive a refund of any funds paid to participate in the course.
8) Other than the above, refunds will not be issued to participants after they have begun a course, where the course has not been cancelled for some reason by PCYC.

Through this course you will gain the knowledge, seamanship and boat-handling skills required for sailboat cruising. Maximum of 4 students per instructor. This 24 hour course is taught by Sail Canada certified cruising instructors who will provide a safe and stimulating experience. Objective: Upon the successful completion of this course you will be able to enjoy a day sail, safely and efficiently in moderate wind and sea conditions. The ideal course for the first time sailor. Learn the basics of crewing in this 18 hour introductory program on a sloop rigged keelboat, 6 to 12 metres with an outboard motor in 5 - 20 knots of wind. You will receive instruction in sailing terms and definitions, marine weather, knots and the duties of skipper and crew. 4 Week Program. CANSail 3 & 4 progressively builds and develops the skills in CANSail 1 & 2, with a focus on keeping the sailor engaged with appropriate challenges and learning opportunities. CANSail 3&4 includes the opportunity for some local regatta participation. This program is taught using our fleet of 420 dinghies which includes spinnaker and trapeze. The Learn to Race program is 2 week program developed to teach the fundamentals of racing, while still maintaining a focus on fun, safety and basic sailing skills. This course is taught in fibreglass Optimist and prepares the first time racer for some local regattas in the Optimist Green Fleet (beginners) and progression to the Optimist Race Team program.

The Optimist Development Team is for the Intermediate Racer. The Optimist Dev Team allows team members to continue developing their boat handling and tactical skills introduced in LTR while working towards their CANSail 3 & 4 accreditation. Team will travel to local and out of province events. Coach recommendation required. Team Size - Max 10 sailors.
Spring and/or Fall training is an available option.

The Optimist High Performance team is a full season program for top ranked sailors that are training for international Championships. The Team will be coached by a top international Optimist coach and will focus on developing racing skills that will allow them to compete at the highest level. Travel to local and US regattas is planned. Full Season (May to Oct) only for HP Team. Team Size: 8 Sailors.

The 29er Race Team is for experienced racers looking to sail a high tech performance boat. The sailors will work on specific skills related to the 29er with an experienced coach. The team will push themselves to be top of the fleet and qualify for CDN youth teams. Extensive travel is required for both training and regattas. Coach recommendation is required. Own boat is required.

Students will push their physical and mental capabilities while they work to refine complex sailing skills and develop their knowledge of race theory and tactics. Students will be working toward CANSail 5/6 levels. Our teams will work towards seeking a place atop the podium at some of Ontario and Canada’s largest youth sailing regatta’s.
